BC Housing Application for Temporary Housing at Island Hotel
BC Housing is applying for a temporary use permit for 440 1st Ave in Ladysmith (Island Hotel). If approved, it will be used as a temporary shelter.
The Ladysmith Resources Centre Association will operate the shelter.
The shelter at 440 1st Ave will:
  • Operated and staffed 24/7
  • Provide 10 shelter beds
  • Provide 2 meals and 1 snack per day
  • Follow all COVID safety measures
BC Housing will be mailing letters to neighbours inviting them to an information session to be held virtually on February 10.
Online Information Session:
February 10, 2021 from 6:30-7:30 pm.
Please RSVP to communityrelations@bchousing.org. A meeting link will be shared with you.
The temporary use permit application is valid until February 16, 2022. We anticipate at least a one-year operating period. There is an option to extend beyond this period if needed.
There is a need for safe shelter in Ladysmith. This shelter will provide a safe space during the COVID-19 pandemic for people experiencing homelessness.
