Small businesses across Central Vancouver Island face increasing challenges—staffing shortages, limited digital skills, and overwhelming workloads that leave little room for growth. In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses that do not adopt new technologies risk falling behind. However, integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital tools does not have to be complicated or expensive. A new initiative is here to help.
Introducing the AI Upskilling for Small Businesses Program
Community Futures Central Island, in collaboration with Hufnagel Consulting and funded by the Province of British Columbia, is launching the AI Upskilling for Small Businesses program. Designed specifically for small businesses, solopreneurs, and nonprofits in the Regional District of Nanaimo—including Qualicum, Ladysmith, Parksville, Lantzville, and Gabriola Island—this program provides practical, hands-on training to help organizations embrace AI with confidence.
What the Program Offers
This program is structured around a guided AI journey delivered through three foundational workshops. These interactive sessions are designed for business owners with no prior technical experience, making AI adoption accessible and easy to implement. The flexible online format ensures that participants can engage at their own pace while keeping up with advancements in AI technology.
Through this program, participants will learn how to:
✔ Automate repetitive tasks to save time
✔ Optimize workflows for greater efficiency
✔ Prepare their business for AI adoption
✔ Free up resources for strategic growth and innovation
✔ Upskill employees with essential digital skills
By overcoming common barriers to AI adoption, local businesses can stay competitive, increase productivity, and enhance long-term resilience in an ever-changing market.
Why AI Matters for Small Businesses
The world of business is shifting rapidly. AI is no longer just a tool for large corporations—it is an essential resource that small businesses can leverage to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and stay ahead of the competition.
