2017 Brits on the Beach Car Show

On Sunday July 9th, the Old English Car Club will be hosting it’s 16th annual British car show at Transfer Beach starting at 10:00 a.m. We anticipate that there will be over 250 British cars and motorcycles on display. The public are invited to view the vehicles and get first hand information from the many car owners who have restored and maintained their classic vehicles.
As always, there is no charge and everyone is welcome.

Thanks to the Township of Ladysmith, we are fortunate to hold his event at Transfer Beach, arguably the finest venue for any car show on Vancouver Island.

Come talk to the owners, enjoy the cars and find out more about the cars and their history. We look forward to seeing you there.

World’s Largest Street Hockey Tournament

By |

Everyone is invited to play!

Sunday June 4, 2017                 10am Start                Puck Drops Noon

Ten years after the successful Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Street Hockey Tournament, the Town of Ladysmith, 49th Parallel Grocery and Paradise Island Foods will be taking on the record attempt for a unprecedented second time.

It will be a new record as Hockey Night in Canada broke the original record but needed 6 months to achieve the iconic World Record from the good folks in London, England. Ladysmith will again attempt this record in a few short hours. Closing down the main streets and level side streets, hockey players of all ages and skill levels will have some fun and be part of history.

New this time is a Skills Competition, more food, music and Ladysmith’s Hockey Hall of Fame! Aggie Hall will be transformed into a hockey lovers dream. There will be memorabilia from the NHL, AHL, BCJHL, VIJHL, plus unique and fascinating pieces of hockey history. Sharing the spotlight will be the very special and moving collection of Dudley “Red” Garrett, the first NHL player killed in action in WW2. Flanked by an Honour Guard that includes RCMP, Local Firefighters, PTSD Therapy Dogs & their handlers, Veterans, & Cadets.

King Richard Brodeur will have his own exhibit and be on hand to sign autographs, talk about Game 7’s and his passion as a world famous painter. As well Richard will be our Adjudicator for the Guinness folks in London.

“It’s time, it’s our record to set, and we want the world to witness it” says Pat Battie, Promotions Manager for the 49th Parallel Grocery chain.

“It’s our 40th Anniversary in business, it’s Ladysmith’s 113th Birthday, Canada’s 150th, we have support of many local and national companies, and North America has hockey playoff fever. In hockey language, we have on our game face!

Guinness World Records™ has given us the go ahead to attempt to set this new record title, we are confident, we have the passion and we have players, young and old, families, friends, neighbours, everyone is invited to play Canada’s street hockey game. A game that requires very little equipment, no fancy uniforms, the only requirement is that you love Hockey, and once the whiffle ball drops, you can imagine just for a moment that you are on not on the road in front of your house, but you are on the ice, it’s Game 7 and you can hear thousand of fans cheering on your team!”
