Nominations are open for the 2018 Black Tie Awards

Nominations for the Black Tie Awards are now open and remain open until January 31, 2018. The Duncan Cowichan Chamber holds the Black Tie Awards to celebrate excellence and raise the profile of the business community and non-profit sector in Cowichan. The Awards Gala on April 7, 2018 is also a fundraiser with a silent auction and draws.

The Black Tie Awards are a community-wide event and everyone is invited to nominate. There are eight award categories recognizing excellence in customer service, volunteerism, art, business, environmental practices and there is a young entrepreneur category. All businesses or organizations in the Cowichan Valley Regional District that meet the criteria can be nominated. Both non-members and members are eligible.

There is an easy online nomination or you can download and print a nomination form – both are found on the Chamber’s home page. People can place multiple nominations in any number of categories. However, nominations from family do not move forward. This still leaves ample opportunity for colleagues, clients, mentors and others to nominate. Nominators are advised to review the category criteria and Award rules.

The Chamber confirms the receipt of each nomination, and notifies all nominees.

Early in the New Year, volunteers conduct standardized, scored phone interviews with each nominator. The volunteers must make voice contact in order for the nomination to go forward. With 130+ nominations each year, it can take some weeks to reach everyone.

A committee then reviews the nominations and phone interviews to select three finalists in each category. Finally, an expert panel conducts scored interviews with the Finalists, and the highest score receives the Award in each category. The results are sealed and kept secret until the Awards night on April 7, 2018.

Nominators and nominees are welcome to contact the Chamber for further details.

The Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce has been representing business since 1908. The Chamber provides professional development, networking, cost savings and advocacy for our 520 members. This year marks the 21st Black Tie Awards, honouring excellence in business and volunteerism in the Cowichan Valley Regional District. The Awards will be presented at the Black Tie Awards and Auction on April 7, 2018 at Brentwood College School.  Everyone is encouraged to nominate.  Both members and non-members are eligible.
