Why I Ride And Who I Ride For…

I am participating in Tour de Rock 2016 to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.

The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies. Cancer came into the lives of my family when I was a teenager- both my Aunt and my Grandfather were diagnosed, treated and then passed away from their diseases. Watching my family struggle with travel, emotions, and feelings of helplessness changed me and set me on my path of becoming a nurse. Children change the world– and I began nursing children in 1989 and continue today. Some people say they could never do my job, working with children and their families going through cancer treatment, but they give us the motivation to do the best job possible–to try and make their lives the best they can be. Cancer touches every family, mine continues to face it daily- my Mom is a two time survivor and my remaining Aunt is a survivor. I want to find a cure and I believe that ongoing research will do that– as my family has seen great improvements and I see it in my daily work!

Please pledge me and help me reach my fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.

Thanks for your support!

I am participating in Cops for Cancer – Tour de Rock 2016 to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.

I am originally from Quebec and just moved recently to the Vancouver Island in the beautiful province of British Columbia. At home, I always enjoyed riding my bike, either to go on for a ride with friends or family or simply to admire the landscapes. When I arrived, I became aware of the Tour de Rock event which is an incredible event of biking accross the Island, helping raise money for children with cancer and visit communities along the Island.

In the last years, I had been touched by cancer on my own as well. My grand-mother lost her battle against cancer and my mother won her battle against breast cancer. During those times, I realized that fighting cancer isn’t only about the disease itself, it’s also demanding a lot of energy from the person to go through the treatments and it’s affecting all people around us. I guess we are never prepared to learn that one of our family member got cancer. I am fortunate to still have my mother with me and hope to enjoy her company for many years to come.

The goal of the Tour de Rock event is to raise money for the children affected by cancer on Vancouver Island. A part of that money will go through cancer research and the other part will go for funds to bring those children to Camp GoodTimes in Maple Ridge, which allow the children to go out from the hospital for a week and enjoy outdoor activities with other children, I encourage you to visit the following link for more information on the Camp: http://www.campgoodtimes.org/.

The money raised over years from this event, had help fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies.

Please help me reaching my fundraising goal, every donation takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Please share my link with your friends and family and make a difference for the children with cancer today!
